Basic Security Training?
Regulation 3 of the Security Services Act says all individuals performing security work are required to complete mandatory training prior to eligibility for provincial licensing. The Basic Security Training must be successfully completed through a JIBC approved training school.
No one may work in the security industry in BC without a BST certificate – it is required bylaw.
What are the prerequisites for Basic Security Training?
In order to take BST training, you must meet the following prerequisites:
•MUST be 19+ years old.
•MUST have a clean criminal record.
•MUST have a primary and secondary identification at exam time Examples: Valid BC Drivers License (or) Valid BCID, PR Card or Canadian Birth Certificate, First Nations Status Card, etc.).
What do I need to bring with me to register for a BST class?
Please bring: 2 pieces of identification (2 Primary pieces of ID or 1 Primary and 1 Secondary piece of ID)
*All ID must be valid, meaning it should not be expired
*The Security General does NOT accept the Care Card or Social Insurance Card as forms of ID

•Valid Open Work or Study Permit
Secondary I.D.
•BCID
•Canadian Driver’s License
•Canadian Firearms License
For those who want to work as a licensed security worker:
You still need a valid / open work permit
BST is only a course and by pass you qualify for a license but is subject to government laws and regulations
